Our team has just published an article on the expansion of the blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) in southern Portugal and the contribution of NEMA and citizen science in monitoring this invasive species. This article publishes the results of the first year of NEMA (April 2019 - March 2020), while explaining in detail how the project was developed and promoted.
In just 1 year, it was possible to document the spread of the blue crab along the 140 km of the Algarve coast, with 166 validated observations, referring to 1747 specimens, reported by 62 citizen scientists.
