The first records of blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) in the Algarve have been published. The first records occurred in the Ria Formosa during 2016 and in 2017 in the Guadiana.
The probable origin is the migration of adult or larval individuals due to coastal currents from an existing population in the Guadalquivir estuary (Bay of Cadiz, Spain) at least since 2002.
